Gamification in the Classroom
Games, or gaming elements, seem to be everywhere these days - cross-marketing ties games to brands, kids and adults spend countless hours staring at screens that keep them clicking pieces of virtual candy, and airlines allow you to unlock rewards by playing their loyalty game. Even education hasn't remained untouched with applications like Kahoot and Jeopardy review games. There's a reason for the rise of games in our everyday world: games are fun. But more than that, games provide us with the things we seek - satisfying accomplishments, achievable goals that are rewarded, feedback when we fail, and, in many cases, more robust social connectivity - everything we want to experience in the classroom.
This website was designed to go beyond a gamified activity to be the basis for thematic game-based learning in conjunction with traditional and student-centered teaching techniques. Everything here is designed to be integrated into the daily school experience by giving students an application of the material beyond the classroom and a celebration of the development of skills that grades often don't reflect. Feel free to look around the site, and if you have any questions you can email me at the link below.
